Top Universities for Studying Abroad in Spain

Spain has been named as the best place to study abroad in Europe and 2^nd in the world’s top 10 places to study abroad. There are so many reasons to study abroad in Spain, including the fact that the country is home to some of the top universities in Europe, which we have put together in this blog.

Pompeu Fabra University

Established in 1990, Pompeu Fabra University is fairly modern. Studying here means that you would be right at the heart of Barcelona, as the university has three campuses in Barcelona’s city centre. In QS Best Student Cities (2019), Barcelona ranked in the world’s top 50 cities for students, placing overall as the best student city in Spain.

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) 

UAB’s main campus is located in Bellaterra, which is a metropolitan area in Barcelona. The university is known for its teaching and research excellence. The teaching structure is fairly flexible, with classes being offered in English, Spanish and Catalan. Some of the degree courses at the university that can be taught fully in English include Business Management and Administration, Economics, Primary Education and Tourism. You can get to Barcelona’s city centre from the university in 25 minutes via the metro (subway).

Complutense University of Madrid

Dating back to the 13^th century, Complutense University of Madrid is the largest university in Spain and one of the oldest in the world. It has also won the title of the most prestigious university in Spain, with many famous and prize-winning alumni. The main campus is located in Madrid’s city centre, and the other in a residential area to the West of Madrid. Studying at Complutense University of Madrid means that you will have La Puerta Del Sol at your doorstep, the heart and soul of Madrid! In QS Best Student Cities (2019), Madrid ranked in the world’s top 50 student cities. The city was also listed as one of the best and cheapest cities in the world for nightlife by Time Out.

The University of Valencia

With roots dating back to the 15^th century, the university of Valencia is another one of Spain’s oldest universities. There are three campuses, all of which are located in or very close to Valencia’s city centre. Valencia is Spain’s third largest city but it’s not too big or too small, some may say it’s the perfect size in between Barcelona and Madrid! Not to mention the beaches that are within close proximity to the university of Valencia’s campuses.

The University of Granada 

As the fourth largest university in Spain, there are approximately 80,000 students attending the university of Granada. Around 2,000 international students attend the university every year through the Erasmus programme. The university is made up of five campuses across Granada, divided by school of faculty. They are Building Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Information and Telecommunications. When studying abroad in Spain, visiting Granada is a must-do due to the amount of Spanish history there, dating as far back as 711AD! History that you could soak up every day if you choose to study at the university of Granada, as classes are taught in the city’s most historic buildings.

Pablo de Olavide University

Pablo de Olavide university is one of Spain’s newest universities and because of this there are centres at the university made purposely for modern technology. The university is located just outside Seville’s city centre but a short bus ride will take you straight into the city. With approximately only 10,000 students, Pablo de Olavide is one of Spain’s smallest universities. This means that you can feel closer and connected with the student community! If you aren’t too keen on the urban feel of the largest Spanish cities, Seville may be the place for you – you can enjoy a laid-back way of life in Seville. Also, as the southernmost region of Spain, Seville has the best heat and sunshine!
