There are so many reasons to study abroad in Italy including the fact that the country is home to a selection of great universities! Politecnico Di Milano
Seven of Politecnico Di Milano’s campuses are located in Milan, meaning that you would be right at the heart of one of the most vibrant European cities. As the largest technical university in Italy, Politecnico Di Milano is most renowned for its excellence in technology, engineering, architecture and design. The university is part of an established group of five leading European universities of science and technology, called the IDEA league. It is a very popular choice for students studying abroad, being awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for 2014-2020.
University of Bologna
Founded in 1088, the university of Bologna is the oldest university in the world! Dante was once a professor at the university and its campuses feature many ancient sites from over 1,000 years ago, including the courtyard of Hercules. There is so much Italian history and architectural heritage to soak up at the university of Bologna. Its main campus is in Bologna, which is located between Venice and Florence but there are four other campuses in Cesena, Forli, Ravenna and Rimini.
Sapienza University of Rome
Another one of the oldest universities in the world, Sapienza University of Rome was founded in 1303. Located in the centre of Rome and as the largest university in Europe, Sapienza is a very popular choice for students wishing to study abroad in Italy. It is partnered with around 400 other universities through the Erasmus programme. You certainly won’t be limited on choice at Sapienza as there are over 250 courses across 11 faculties on offer.
Università di Padova
Founded in 1222, Università di Padova is one of Europe’s most prestigious universities and a top-rated Italian university for its research quality. Padova is a city in North Italy, 30-45 minutes away from Venice and Verona by train, with students making up 30% of its population. The university is part of a wider establishment known as the Coimbra Group, which includes historical research-intensive universities like university of Cambridge and Oxford in the UK.
University of Milan
The university of Milan is the only Italian university belonging to the League of European Research Universities (LERU), as a group of the 23 most prestigious research-intensive universities in Europe. Founded in 1924, the university has seen a huge increase in student numbers over the years, now with over 60,000 students. Milan is a thriving city with a large student population of around 180,000, making it a very lively place to study abroad. It is the best place to get involved in traditions like ‘Aperitivo’ – when Italians meet in the evening for a drink and light meal as a warmup to dinner.
