The Warehouse
We can’t talk about the best Leeds nightlife for students without mentioning this iconic and much-loved Leeds venue. The Warehouse opened back in 1979, and since then has been at the heart of music and clubbing in Leeds. Music legends like Oasis and The Stone Roses have even played here. The club was given a major makeover in 2010 and now has the best light and sound systems, which attract some of the best DJs around. Every Saturday night, the Warehouse hosts a club night called Propaganda, with resident DJs that have played the likes of Glastonbury, Benicassim, and Ibiza venues. Student entry is £4, and drinks start from just £1.You should look out for student reps selling tickets around your university campus, as they might be able to offer you further discounts.
Mission
Another venue boasting a history of the best clubbing in Leeds is Mission. Over the past 16 years this warehouse club has been host to world-class DJs like David Guetta, Axwell, Steve Angello, MK and Green Velvet, to name but a few. The club has been given the title of ‘The Home of House’, and it is clear why. The venue specialises in house music mixes, which, along with the warehouse venue and industrial décor, gives the place a hip and edgy feel. There are weekly club nights, like WERK Mondays when entry is £2, and drinks are £2. Or there are P.A.R.T.Y Thursdays, which brings more of a festival vibe, but with cocktail buckets for £6 and double vodka and mixers for £3.
The Hi-Fi Club
This venue has been given the title of best nightclub and best live music venue at the annual Leeds bar and club awards. Here, they have created weekly club nights with an edge – like their 60s soul night Moveonup every Wednesday, their 80s-night Vice City on selected weekends, and their 90s night So Fresh, So Clean on a Saturday once a month. The funk ‘n’ soul party Moveonup every Wednesday night is the most popular night as many enjoy dancing to the best of Motown music, RnB, soul and disco beats. Students get £4 entry with a valid student card and there are lots of drinks promotions – like £3 for a spirt and mixer, £3.50 for a vodka and red bull, and £3 on selected beers and ciders.
Be At One
For something a little more chilled-out and classy, this cocktail bar is a great spot for hanging with your friends and chatting over a cocktail. When you’re cocktailed out, you can then switch the cocktails for more dancefloor-appropriate drinks and enjoy some dancing. Be At One run happy hour from 4.30pm-8.00pm Monday-Thursday, 3.00pm-8.00pm on Fridays, 2.00pm-8.00pm on Saturdays, and 4.30pm-12.00am on Sundays. During these times you can get 2-4-1 on their list of fun cocktails, like a ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’, ‘Man-goes Bananas’, or ‘Tropic Like It’s Hot’. Be At One is around the corner from the University of Leeds, so you could pop in after classes, enjoy the happy hour, and see where the night takes you!
Pryzm
Only having opened in 2014, this venue is now seen as one of the best super clubs in Leeds and, as it is located within The Arena Quarter in Leeds, it is at the heart of the city’s nightlife. The venue has three clubrooms and five club nights every week. You can also expect to see some fun and wacky guest appearances. Recent guests have included Basshunter, Fatman Scoop and Dani Harmer – the actress who played Tracey Beaker. The biggest student night is QUIDS IN every Monday, when entry is £1 and selected drinks are also £1 – need we say more!?
