Personal Effects Customs Clearance Indonesia
Holiday baggage and other time sensitive packages should not be sent on this route.
Household goods must have been in the client's possession and use for at least one full year, and imported within 3 months of arriving in Indonesia if relocating permanently to Indonesia for one year or more, or only 15 working days of arriving in Indonesia if visiting the country temporarily for less than one year.
Indonesia does not have a personal effects allowance, and all shipments entering the country are subject to taxes/duties ranging from 0%-20%. Other charges and duties may also apply. All uploaded documents detailed below must match the name of the receiver on the order, as Indonesian customs will not accept documentation in the name of the shipper.
The named receiver must be in the country for customs clearance procedures as they will be required to provide their flight ticket showing they have travelled to Indonesia from the country they are shipping from, and also provide an image of their boarding pass from their flight, and entry stamp in their passport issued upon arrival in Indonesia. Indonesian Citizens may also be required to provide a copy of their ID Card (EKTP) and foreigners any visas held if not entering the country under the Visa Exemption rules for holiday.
For Indonesian citizens returning after being abroad more than 1 year, Indonesian customs will require a letter and Lapor Diri Stamp from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in the country they were living, along with evidence of the reason for living abroad such as an employment letter if working, or enrolment letter if studying.
For non-Indonesian citizens who are moving to Indonesia permanently (12 months or more), customs will request copies of their ID Residence Permit (KITAS Card) or Residence Certificate (ITAS), and work permit (IMTA) valid for at least 12 months.
Indonesian customs may at their discretion reach out for additional information as required.
On this route, you are also required to visit the destination country’s official customs website and make yourself aware of any additional, requirements, processes or fees, which may be due, based on your personal circumstances and what you are shipping.
Upon arrival in the destination, you agree to comply with any customs processes, provide the customs authority with any information they request and to discuss the clearance of the shipment directly with the customs authority or our delivery partner in the destination.
General Personal Effects Customs Information
Personal effects are typically defined as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your shipment is checked by customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items, you shipment may not be assessed as personal effects. Keep this in mind if you are sending Christmas gifts or other new items. Please check with customs so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow any advice given and attach all necessary documentation.
In order to demonstrate that your shipment consists of personal effects, you will be required to complete a brief non-generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton Dresses, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Pair of Gloves", and so on, rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".
As customs processes and allowances vary by country, we advise all customers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.
More information is available on our customs information page.

About Indonesia
The Republic of Indonesia is a sovereign state that is located on several islands across Southeast Asia and Oceania. As an archipelago, it is comprised of 13,466 islands and is the world’s fourth most populous country, with more than 238 million inhabitants. The language spoken is Indonesian and the currency used is the Rupiah.
The climate of Indonesia is generally very constant as the country straddles the equator. This means temperature and air pressure is generally unchanging. In coastal areas temperatures sit at around 28°C (84°F), and 23°C (73°F) in inland mountainous regions, with high humidity all around. The amount of rainfall determines the seasons. There is usually a dry season between June and September and a rainy season from December to March, but tropical storms can hit the islands between September and December.
Indonesia is an especially popular destination with young people taking gap years and with backpackers travelling around south-east Asia. The capital city is Jakarta, which draws in visitors with its fantastic shopping, being packed full of super malls, markets and independent shops. But there is so much more to do in Indonesia than just shopping.
A popular activity in Indonesia is free diving, which is great fun for beginners or experts. Have a go at this unique water sport at one of the country’s scenic fishing villages at Amed. The country is also famed for its volcanoes, so grab your boots and climb one of them, such as the still-smouldering Mt Bromo or Mt Agung in Bali.
Tourists also enjoy exploring Indonesia’s wildlife in the rainforests, such as the endangered orangutan or the Komodo dragons in the National Park. Of course, there are also plenty of typical holiday activities to participate in, such as lapping up the sun on numerous beaches, surfing, enjoying the local food and dancing the night away in nightclubs and bars.

Air Freight to Indonesia
If you need to send large items like a sofa or armchair to Indonesia you could try air freight. This tends to be faster than sea freight shipping, normally taking one to two days. It is, however, typically more expensive. How much you pay when shipping by air freight is determined by the weight and size of your shipment. Plus, you will probably have to pay for the services of a customs agent to look after customs clearance for you. Another expense is getting your items to and from the airport. The price could, therefore, quickly mount up. If you send internationally by air freight to Indonesia your items will arrive at a major Indonesian airport such as Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Juanda International Airport or Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Sea Freight and Container Shipping to Indonesia
To transport your possessions to Indonesia you could choose sea freight or container shipping. This a good option if you don’t need to receive your items immediately as sea freight can take a number of weeks. This option is also normally used when shipping large bulky items, like a dining table or a chest of drawers. Sea freight can be less expensive than air freight but you will still need to pay for the services of a customs agent and will need to sort out how to get your items to and from the ports. When using container shipping to Indonesia, your items will most likely arrive by ship at one of the major sea ports, such as the Ports of Semarang, Pontianak or Bitung.
Shipping Goods to Indonesia
When shipping commercial goods to Indonesia you need to be aware of up-to-date customs rules. Make sure you know about any duty/taxes that you need to pay and what items are permitted to be shipped to Indonesia, which items are restricted, and which are entirely prohibited. Take a look at the prohibited items and customs sections on this page for more information.
