Personal Effects Customs Clearance Bangladesh
Holiday baggage and other time sensitive packages should not be sent on this route.
The owner of the shipped goods must be in Bangladesh at the time of customs clearance and items must arrive within 6 months of the owner’s arrival. There is no personal effects allowance and all shipments will be subject to the prevailing duties and taxes. The owner of the goods should be named as the shipper and receiver; the name must also match that on the passport used to clear the goods.
Shipments with a value over $100 USD may take an additional 72 hours to process.
On this route, you are required to visit the destination country’s official customs website and make yourself aware of any requirements, processes or fees, which may be due based on your personal circumstances and what you are shipping.
Upon arrival in the destination, you agree to comply with any customs processes, provide the customs authority with any information they request and to discuss the clearance of the shipment directly with the customs authority or our delivery partner in the destination.
General Personal Effects Customs Information
Personal effects are typically defined as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your shipment is checked by customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items, you shipment may not be assessed as personal effects. Keep this in mind if you are sending Christmas gifts or other new items. Please check with customs so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow any advice given and attach all necessary documentation.
In order to demonstrate that your shipment consists of personal effects, you will be required to complete a brief non-generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton Dresses, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Pair of Gloves", and so on, rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".
As customs processes and allowances vary by country, we advise all customers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.
More information is available on our customs information page.

About Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a country in South East Asia, situated on the Bay of Bengal. It is a low-lying area susceptible to flooding. It is also a verdant region with plenty of lush forest, including a large mangrove forest (the Sundarbans). Bangladesh is densely populated, with a population of around 166, 280, 712 people in a land area of 133, 911 square kilometres. The country’s capital city is Dhaka, a city of over 15.391 million people.
Bangladesh’s capital City, Dhaka, has a wealth of tourist attractions on offer. You can visit stunning modern-day architecture in the form of National Parliament House, or go back in time and visit Ahsan Manzil – the former residence of the Nawabs of Dhaka. Or why not take a tour of the 17th-century Lalbag Fort or Sonargaon, outside the city, which was once the capital of Bengal?
If you want to view the Bangladeshi scenery, head to Cox’s Bazar Beach – said to be the world’s longest beach. It is beautifully peaceful if you can find a quiet spot away from the crowds. Or, visit the rainforest in Lowacherra National Park and do some wildlife spotting, where you are most likely to see monkeys and gibbons.
Bangladesh has a subtropical monsoon climate, which means high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The coolest month is January, when there is an average temperature of 18°C (65°F) in Dhaka. The highest temperature is in August, with an average temperature of 29°C (84°F). Monsoon season is from May until September.

Air Freight to Bangladesh
When sending big bulky items, like a coffee table or armchair, to Bangladesh, you could use air freight. Air freight normally takes one to two days, which is quicker than sea freight shipping, but generally more expensive. You need to also factor in the cost of paying for a customs agent to handle customs clearance and getting your items to and from the airport, which means that costs could quickly mount up. If you send internationally by air freight to Bangladesh your items will likely arrive at one of the major international airports, such as Osmani, Shah Amanat or Hazrat Shahjalal.
Sea Freight and Container Shipping to Bangladesh
A cheaper alternative is sea freight or container shipping. Sea freight is also good for bulky items, like a sofa or dining table. You will still need to use the services of a customs agent and will need to sort out how to get your items to and from the ports, which means the cost could be more than expected. When using container shipping to Bangladesh your items will most likely arrive by ship at a major sea port, such as Chittagong.
Shipping Goods to Bangladesh
You should be fully aware of any duty that you need to pay when shipping goods to Bangladesh. Find out what items are allowed to be shipped to Bangladesh, which items are restricted, and which are entirely prohibited. Take a look at the prohibited items and customs sections on this page for more information.
