Canada was ranked among the best countries to move to in the 2019 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey. In this survey, expats said that Canada has a diverse society and culture, which makes settling in easier. There are also lots of opportunities for career progression in Canada. In this blog Send My Bag have put together the top reasons Canada is one of the best places to move to!
1. Its Immigration System
The immigration system in Canada is known to be a lot better than in the U.S. The Canadian government has created schemes and programs over the past few years to grow Canada’s immigration levels. One of these is Canada’s Global Talent Stream, which has resulted in almost 24,000 visas being granted to skilled foreign workers. Canada also has an express entry system for skilled workers to obtain permanent residence. It is an online system created for the purpose of making the process faster and more efficient. Over 60,000 new permanent residents were admitted in Canada in 2017 through this system. According to the 2018 annual immigration report for Canada, there was a 130% increase in citizenship applications from October 2017 to June 2018.
A new immigration system has just been announced in Canada for agri-food workers. Due to be implemented in 2020, the scheme will open up more opportunities for foreign workers with experience in the agri-food sector to get permanent residency in Canada. Canada’s immigration system can make a permanent move there a lot easier!
2. Welcoming Culture and Diversity
Over six million people have immigrated to Canada since 1990 and immigrants now represent one in five people living there, according to Canada’s 2018 Annual Immigration Report. Toronto and Vancouver topped the Economist Intelligence Unit’s ranking of the 50 most liveable cities in the world in 2018, both ranking in the top 10. Toronto has been referred to as the most multicultural city in the world. You can explore different cultures throughout the city – from Little India, to Chinatown, to Little Portugal, Little Italy, Greektown, and many more. Canada was ranked as the country with the most welcoming culture in the 2019 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey.
3. Happiness
Canada is one of the happiest countries in the world, according to a report by the Happiness Research Institute. The report ranked Canada in the top 10 countries for its socio-economical, cultural, and political factors, which all contribute to well-being and happiness. Also, in a United Nations survey that ranked the happiness of immigrants in 117 countries between 2015 and 2017, Canada came in the top 10! Expats ranked Canada in the top five countries for well-being and fulfilment in the 2019 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey.
4. Career Opportunities
CBC reported that from 2018 to 2019 job vacancies in Canada rose by nearly 10%. The country’s unemployment rate is now also down to 5.4%, its lowest since 1976. Occupations in high demand in Canada include those in healthcare, those within the STEM field and trade occupations. If you are interested in the technology field, the Business Insider reported that three of Canada’s cities have been ranked in the 50 most high-tech cities in the world.

You will have endless natural landscapes to explore in Canada! People travel from around the globe to visit some of Canada’s natural wonders, including Niagara Falls and the Canadian Rockies.
