Qatar Customs Information

Customs Information

Please take a moment to review the important customs information before shipping to Qatar.

Personal Effects Customs Clearance Qatar

Customers will need to provide a copy of the consignee's Qatar ID or Residence Permit if held, or a copy of their passport if no ID or permit is held, in order to assist with clearing the shipment as used personal effects.

All printed materials (books, CDs, DVDs, and computer software) are subject to censorship and must be packed together in an easily accessible location in the consignment. Items deemed inappropriate will be confiscated and fines levied on the importer.

General Personal Effects Customs Information

Personal effects are typically defined as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your shipment is checked by  customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items, you shipment may not be assessed as personal effects. Keep this in mind if you are sending Christmas gifts or other new items. Please check with customs so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow any advice given and attach all necessary documentation.

In order to demonstrate that your shipment consists of personal effects, you will be required to complete a brief non-generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton Dresses, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Pair of Gloves", and so on, rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".

As customs processes and allowances vary by country, we advise all customers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.

More information is available on our customs information page.

Customs Clearance Time

Most shipments on this route will not be stopped by customs, however, when a bag is stopped by customs for any reason (missing documentation, impromptu inspection, prohibited contents, commercial contents or further information required) Send My Bag records how long customs hold it for. Our historical statistics for this route indicate that if the customs authority stops your bag they will on average take 1 working day to process it and release it back to us for delivery.

About Qatar

About Qatar

The sovereign Arab country of Qatar is situated in West Asia on the Arabian Peninsula. Its southern tip borders Saudi Arabia and is surrounded on all other sides by the Persian Gulf. Qatar is the world’s richest country per capita. Once famed for pearl hunting, it is known today for its huge natural gas and oil reserves. Its population is notable, with a total of 1.8 million residents, only 278,000 of whom are Qatari citizens; the other 1.5 million are expatriates. The currency used in Qatar is the Qatari Riyal and the official language is Arabic.

The climate in Qatar is subtropical with much of the country dry and desert-like. Summer temperatures between June and September can easily soar above 40°C (104°F) and there is very little rainfall. The country is frequently buffered by the Shamal ‒ a hot, dusty wind that causes sandstorms. The coast is usually cooler, with a more pleasant breeze.

As one of the world’s richest countries, the wealthy flock to Qatar to see the sights and to be seen. Shopping is a popular past time for residents and tourists in the capital city, Doha, whether they are hitting up the sparkling new super malls or exploring the Souk markets and winding streets of the traditional old town.

Many tour companies in Qatar will offer trips to the “Inland Sea”, which means a day out exploring the rolling waves of the sand dunes in the south of the country. This can be as extreme and fast or bumpy as you like, so thrill seekers and families alike will enjoy this experience. There are also numerous beaches around the peninsula where you can spend a day or two on a more relaxing trip.

You may welcome the opportunity to spend some time inside, away from the blazing sun, however. Qatar has many attractions that will allow you to do so, including a range of museums, mosques and cultural centres to explore.

Please explore this page further to find out about Send My Bag’s shipping service to Qatar.

Other Ways of Shipping to Qatar

Other Ways of Shipping to Qatar

As well as sending parcels, baggage and luggage to Qatar you could look into the following alternatives for shipping items internationally, especially if you need to send large, bulky items like furniture.

Air Freight to Qatar

If you have items ? like a chest of drawers or a dresser ? that you need to send to Qatar, you could try air freight. You should normally allow one or two days for items to be flown to your destination. The service is quite quick, but it can be quite expensive, especially as you will likely have to pay for a customs agent to sort customs clearance for you. A further cost to consider is getting your items to and from the airport, which means the price of using air freight could quickly mount up. If you send internationally by air freight to Qatar your items will likely arrive at Doha International Airport.

Sea Freight and Container Shipping to Qatar

You can try sea freight or container shipping to ship large bulky items like a bed. Sea freight shipping can take a several weeks, but it’s usually a more cost-effective option, good for those who don’t need their items immediately. Keep in mind that you will still need to pay for the services of a customs agent and will need to organise transport for your items to and from the ports. When using container shipping to Qatar, your items will most likely arrive by ship at the Port of Doha.

Shipping Goods to Qatar

When shipping goods to Qatar it is essential that you find out about current customs rules. You should research any duty that you need to pay and what items are permitted to be shipped to Qatar, and which are not.  Take a look at the prohibited items and customs sections on this page for more information.
