What is the Russell Group?
The Russell Group is an incorporated organisation of twenty-four UK universities that have a global leadership status in research, because of the ground-breaking academic research and impact that they have generated. Research by the Russell Group is said to have already produced billions of pounds for the UK economy and to have had global, cultural, and economical impact in almost 200 countries, excluding the ongoing research at the Russell Group Universities. Some examples of the results of their research include the creation of new medical treatments, cost-saving technologies, and the newest industry products. Russell Group directors have also specified that their student satisfaction rates are higher than average. In addition, the Russell Group has ‘red brick’ status as it includes the six original Red Brick Universities.
Why Study at a Russell Group University?
Joining a Russell Group University means joining an inventive environment where you can play a special part in developing new ideas, technologies, products and services ‒ an environment where you do not have to be shy with your ideas, as the Russell Group is known for inventing and re-inventing. You will become part of a growing engine that has a valued and respected status due to its ongoing global impact. In light of the reputation that the Russell Group Universities have developed, attendance at one of these universities is likely to give you a competitive advantage in the eyes of employers. When it comes to recruitment, employers tend to target Russell Group Universities because they rank highly in university league tables, and because they are known to yield a higher volume of ‘work-ready’ graduates.
By being a part of a bigger and incorporated group, each university at the Russell Group has the advantage of tapping into the vast amount of funding, grants, and awards that the organization receives. These universities are, therefore, better equipped when it comes to investing in students and opportunities for them.
When it comes to your university projects, you’ll not fall short of resources to help you develop your research, especially if you decide to pursue a PhD or a research-based Master’s degree. As the Russell Group Universities’ success is based on research, you will have an endless list of resources at your fingertips, including lab space, equipment and libraries, as well as the advantage of tutors with an expertise in research.
