About Nigeria

About Nigeria

Nigeria is situated in Western Africa, between Benin and Cameroon. It has the biggest population of any African country (177,155,754 people) and is made up of more than 250 ethnic groups. The official language of the country is English but there are many other indigenous languages being used - over 500, in fact. The country’s currency is the Nigerian Naira. The country’s weather is often dry and hot, with an average maximum temperature of 30°C (86°F) in April and an average minimum temperature of 24°C (75°F) in December/ January.

The capital of Nigeria is Abuja, but Lagos remains its largest city, at 999 square kilometres, and with a population of 7,937,932. A visit to Lagos is not for the faint-hearted, given that it is incredibly busy and polluted and that there is a high crime rate. Quieter cities, such as Oshogbo, however, are worth a visit. In Oshogbo you can visit the Osun Sacred Grove, which is thought to be the residence of Osun, the Yoruba fertility goddess. The Grove is filled with the sculptures of Austrian-born artist Suzanne Wenger and those of her pupils. Wenger was responsible for reviving the Grove and became ordained as a Yoruba priestess. Calabar in the southeast has also been described as a tourist-friendly city with a number of visitor attractions.

You can fly into Nigeria from many international destinations. International airports are located in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu.

Please explore this page further to find out about Send My Bag’s shipping service to Nigeria.

Other Ways of Shipping to Nigeria

Other Ways of Shipping to Nigeria

As well as sending parcels, baggage and luggage to Nigeria you could look into the following alternatives for shipping items internationally, especially if you need to send large, bulky items like furniture.

Air Freight to Nigeria

Air freight is one option for getting large items to Nigeria. This option takes just a few days, so is quick, but it can be expensive. How much you have to pay depends on your shipment’s weight and its size. You will probably also have to factor in the cost of a customs agent to deal with customs clearance for you. And, you need to get your items to and from the airport. Costs could, therefore, quickly spiral. If you send internationally by air freight to Nigeria your items will likely arrive at one of the major airports, such as Murtala Muhammed, Port Harcourt or Mallam Aminsu Kano International Airports.

Sea Freight and Container Shipping to Nigeria

Sea freight or container shipping to transport your possessions to Nigeria could be the option for you if you don’t need your items immediately. This can be less expensive than air freight, but you will still need to hire a customs agent and will need to get your items to and from the ports, which means the cost could be more than expected. Your items will most likely arrive at one of the major sea ports, such as Lagos or Onne.

Shipping Goods to Nigeria

You need to know about the current customs rules when shipping goods to Nigeria. You should be fully aware of any customs duties that you need to pay and what items are allowed to be shipped to Nigeria, which items are restricted, and which are entirely prohibited. Take a look at the prohibited items and customs sections on this page for more information.
